Great Starting day for Gencon
Got an early morning update from Aahz, one of our Find Gamer users at Gencon. Since it seems a great year for the D&D All Access Pass, he decided to enjoy the mystery spiffs and 16 hours of dedicated D&D 5E game time. Look what they gave the folks who bought that package this morning. Looks like a great way to start Gencon to me.
Statistics Tell a Story
As of today on July 30th, 2014. There are some interesting statistics generated by the users here at Find Gamers.
Can Host: 34.3%
Can GM: 48%
Game Online: 29.9%
These numbers are interesting. If they continue to hold true as the site grows, it could explain why some of us have trouble finding other folks to game with. Firstly, only a third of us are able to host games. This is a huge hurdle to overcome, because if you don't have a place to game - then you have no game. It's an interesting dilemma and something I'd love to help solve. So hopefully soon there will be a new searchable option for `places to play.` There will be also search options for game stores, private gaming groups, clubs etc.
Great news on the GM'ing front. With almost a50% of you interested in running a game, there are no shortage of options there. Gaming Online is far more popular than I expected it to be. I honestly can't stand to game online so you guys are amazing to me.
Welcome Great Britain and Canada
I'd like to welcome gamers from Canada and Great Britain to Find Gamers. You'll can now search for local gamers in your area via our search tool. Just remember to set your Postal Code in Basic Preferences to get started. GB gamers should use their Outward Code only and Canadians should use their FSA postal codes only.
Any Events, Conventions or Local Events will work exactly as the Gamer Search feature. If you have questions or see problems, let me know via feedback.
Update:
One of the new UK users mentioned some confusion about how the postal codes should be entered. So I have clarified the instructions a bit. I've also added some new code in the Basic Preferences. When you submit a postal code, the site runs a check. If it's good then you're told which "city" you are in. Otherwise it gives you a list of alternate locations if there are any partial matches.
