Awesome April Updates!

We're excited to tell you about some great new features for our website!

It all started when we researched how our members use Find Gamers.  You see, some of our most  active members haven't been taking advantage of Find Gamer's site settings.  So we thought, wow let's help them out.  Below are some of the ideas being launched in the next week.

Comic Sans

To encourage our members who haven't set up their own individualized site customizations, starting today we're setting the default font for our site to Microsoft's famously loved Comic Sans It'll give you just the right encouragement to use our easy-to-find font settings!

Email Reminders

Members who've been reluctant to decide on their email reminder frequency will now default to every 6 hours.  You might receive up to 4 emails each time, isn't that a great way to stay in touch?

Sign Up Group Members

Why stop there?  Ever wanted to sign up all the gamers in your group too?  Just add their email address to the new Instant Account tool, they'll be signed up instantly.  You can even pre-select the games for their profile because you know what they love.  We're sure they will appreciate you for it.

Bonus for Signing up Group Members

Members who sign up the most gamers will always float to the top of player searches, that's awesome right?

Woot! Woot!

We think you'll love these coming features as much as we do!  Tell your friends.

Inbox Message Status Bug

Greetings members.

As much as I hate to admit this, there was an Inbox message bug that persisted for a few months.  It could mistakenly change the status of Unread messages to Read.   It only happened when the message sender re-read the message in their own Sent messages.

It's been fixed but there isn't method to fix the messages that were mistakenly marked Read.  This means many of you have messages in your Inbox that you might not have noticed.

So I recommend you double-check your Inbox.  It's possible some members have missed a new gaming opportunity.

Custom Search Filters

Happy post Mardi Gras gamers.

Find Players

Yesterday some new search options were added to our Local Gamers page.  They have been requested several times by our members, we hope you find them useful.

You can now customize your search for other players with new options.  Just select Custom Search, then select Yes or NO on these new options:  Can GM, Can Host or Married.  The search results will only show members with those options in their profile.

Married Status

On a related note, at some point in the near future we'll be changing the wording related to Married status.  It will be changing to Married/Couples or something similar.

Updates: Local Player Finder & Test Users

Salutations Gamers!

We've rolled out a few updates this morning that our members should find useful.

Local Gamers

The first and most important is a major update to the Local Gamers player finder.  The goal was to make the page more useful to our members on mobile phones.   So I'd love some constructive Feedback to know if it's helped our smart phone users.

We recently implemented a few enhancements mentioned in the previous news article.  The new Tab Display options in Saved Settings (formerly called Page Settings)  has been updated further.  They allow you to control the initial volume of information displayed on the search page.  The first row in Tab Display will show the least amount of information initially.  However you can set the page to always merge tabs so it will display more information right away.

Test Users

A few of you might have noticed some extra options in unexpected locations.  It means you were one of the roughly .007% who were chosen by an algorithm to be one of our Test Users.   You get to test new features before our regular members see the updates.  If you see a blue padlock occasionally on a menu or in a page, it means you are currently a Test User.

If I see our Test Users trying out new test features but don't send Feedback, it's assumed there are no problems and it should be released to our other members.

Some of you might be wondering what types of things our Test Users are trying out.

  • The most recent was the changes to the Local Gamers player finder.
  • Today a new option on the top menu was added.  It allows members to temporarily change your Postal Code.  Why do that you'd ask?  I had a few members send Feedback asking for this option.  All of these members have jobs where they frequently have extended travel for work.
  • In the next month, Test Users might see a new type of email.  They will only see this email if there are new members in their local area available for gaming.

Enhancements for Find Players Searches

Some of our members might have noticed a few changes to our Find Player pages recently.  The Local Gamer and Online Gamer search pages have updates and new search options.

As always, please let us know through Feedback if you have any problems with these updates.

Search Options

The Custom Search options that appear on both Local & Online Gamer searches have changed.  We've move these options, they now appear in the page instead of a pop-up window.  This was done for a couple of reasons.  Some of our member were having problems on smaller screens.  This will also allow us to add newer search options in the future without cluttering the screen.

Saved Settings

There are some new search options that are saved on a per-page basis.  You'll see them referred to as Saved Settings.

Members have a new option to limit search results on both search pages.  You can now search for Exact Matches for Games & Genres.  When other members appear in your search, only the game systems & genres that match your own are displayed in the results.  We've had a lot of members ask for this feature.

A few of our Board & Card gamers have asked for an easier way to see the General Tab without needing to select every single one of them.  It's now a savable option in the Local Gamer search page.  In the future we'll separate RPG and Wargaming into separate tabs.  It'll clean up the clutter even more.

Minor Postal Codes Updates

Some new code just went live that verifies postal codes better than before.  With this, members will get a notification if they try to change their post code to one that isn't formatted properly to their country.

New members will see a note on Welcome page after sign-up and in their sign-up email.  It's important to include it in this email because it helps our new gamer friends to easily navigate the menu right away.

If you have problems with your postal code after this update, don't fail to send Feedback.  Anyone having trouble signing-up should send feedback and include your email address if possible.
