Old School Rises Again
Last month I was at a small convention where two sessions of a local gamer's 1st Edition AD&D Tomb of Horrors game had more players signed & showing up to play than it could handle. Odd you'd think, nobody plays anything but the new cutting edge games at conventions right? Everybody's waiting with baited breath for D&D 5E right? Well no, not everyone and especially not now. Because although it might seem odd, vintage roleplaying is on the slow burn to become the "hot new thing." Why a slow burn? Because it's all being done at the grass roots level, game publishers aren't wild about the idea because it cuts into their profits. But gamers who learned their craft in the 70's and 80's have found sudden popularity at gaming conventions, local groups and game stores across the world.
Lest you think I'm embellishing things, the Facebook Vintage Roleplaying group has over 2000 members. Larger even than that is the Dragonsfoot forum with over 9000 members. These site and others continue to grow, they aren't shrinking. Old School roleplaying fans are happily learning they aren't alone in their love of the classics.
As for Find Gamers, we've supported OSRIC from the start but in the last few months there has been an up-tick in requests for vintage roleplaying games that I never expected when the site started. First came the requests for BECMI (Basic Expert Champions Masters Immortals), quickly followed by classic versions of Gamma World, Top Secret and James Bond. All I can say is: Bring it on guys, I am more than happy to add them for you. Find Gamers is here to support your need to find roleplayers not only in your area but who also have the same interest.
